Inspiration 1: The common idiom “Jack of all trades, master of none”
The first recorded use of the phrase “Jack of All Trades” was in 1618 by English Writer Geffray Mynghul in his “Essays and Characters of a Prison”
The phrase maintains it’s original meaning as a person who has a diverse skillset.
Overtime this meaning has held both positive and negative connotations.
“Jack of all trades, master of none, oftentimes better than master of one”
Inspiration 2: The Legend of Stingy Jack (aka “Jack of the Lantern”)
Stingy Jack was trickster and a drunk, famous for tricking the devil at least twice.
Upon his death he met an unusual fate.
Jack was barred from Heaven due to his wicked deeds,
but the devil couldn’t claim his soul due to the deal Jack made with him before.
And so Jack’s soul was forced to wander the world in-between for eternity,
with only a small lantern made from a piece of coal in a turnip to light his way.
